The NFA was formed with the mandate to support Native fishermen in the commercial fishing industry. We provide financial assistance to Native commercial fishermen by way of carefully designed individual loan programs to best suit the needs and circumstances of each borrower.

The NFA provides loans to assist fishermen with:

  • debt reorganization
  • licence acquisition,
  • vessel acquisition
  • vessel maintenance and improvements

The NFA entered in partnership with the New Relationship Trust in 2013 to deliver the First Nations Equity-Matching Initiative, which offers First Nations commercial fishermen who are applying for NFA loans with an equity matching grant of up to $5000 to be used towards their equity.

  • Please click the link to get the application form and begin the process of accessing the Indigenous Business Stabilization Program Emergency Loan Program.  The program supports a loan/grant of up to $40,000 of which 75% or up to $30,000 is a zero percent interest loan with no payments for the first 12 months, and 25% or up to $10,000 is a non-repayable grant.
